Our signature service

Your lawn is costing you —
water, money, and time

Central Oregon receives just 11 inches of rain per year, yet traditional lawns demand thousands of gallons of irrigation just to survive the summer. The City of Bend has set a goal to reduce outdoor water use by 7.9 billion gallons over the next 20 years — and your lawn is one of the biggest contributors to the problem.

Xeriscaping replaces thirsty grass with drought-tolerant native plants, decomposed granite, river rock, and efficient drip irrigation. The result is a yard that looks beautiful, fits our high desert environment, barely needs watering once established, and never needs mowing. And right now the city will pay you to make the switch.

Why Central Oregon homeowners are making the switch

Up to 75% less water
A typical lawn uses around 15,000 gallons per year per 1,000 sq ft. A xeriscape of the same size uses a fraction of that — year after year.
No mowing, ever
Native plants are built for this climate. Once established they thrive on their own — no weekly mowing, no fertilizing, no reseeding.
Higher property value
Professionally designed xeriscapes add curb appeal and appraised value. Buyers in Central Oregon increasingly see it as a premium feature.
Lower water bills
Outdoor irrigation is the biggest driver of summer water bills in Bend. Switching to xeriscape cuts that cost dramatically — every single year.
Supports local wildlife
Native plantings attract pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects that support the high desert ecosystem right in your own backyard.
Beautiful year-round
A well-designed xeriscape uses texture, color, and structure to look stunning in every season — not just when the grass is barely hanging on.

Common questions

FAQ

Why is water conservation so important in Central Oregon?
Central Oregon receives just 11 inches of rain per year — well below what most traditional landscapes need to survive without heavy irrigation. The region's population has grown significantly while water supply from the Deschutes River faces increasing pressure. The City of Bend has set a goal to reduce outdoor water use by 7.9 billion gallons over the next 20 years. Xeriscaping is one of the most impactful things a homeowner can do to support that — and right now the city will help pay for it. Learn more on our xeriscaping page.
How does the City of Bend xeriscape rebate work?
The City of Bend's Turf Replacement Rebate pays qualifying homeowners $3 per square foot to replace grass with water-efficient xeriscape, up to $3,000. You must be a City of Bend water customer. The 2026 program is opening soon and runs first-come, first-served. Contact us and we will walk you through the application process.
Can I combine xeriscaping with a water feature?
Absolutely — and it is actually a beautiful combination. A pondless waterfall or fountainscape placed within a xeriscape gives you the sound of water, the look of a lush garden, and the water savings of a drought-tolerant landscape all at once. The water feature recirculates the same water continuously, so it adds very little to your overall consumption.
What is the difference between a pondless waterfall and a fountainscape?
A pondless waterfall features a stream and cascade of water over rocks, often several feet long, disappearing into a gravel basin. It is a more dramatic, natural-looking feature suited to larger spaces or yards with some slope. A fountainscape is more compact — a bubbling boulder, water bowl, or decorative vessel that works beautifully on a patio or in a smaller front yard. Both are low-maintenance and family-safe.
Do you offer maintenance after installation?
Yes. We offer ongoing maintenance plans for ponds and water features including seasonal clean-outs, equipment checks, and water quality care. Visit our pond maintenance page to learn more.
